Chuckle Berry’s Bio:

*Most of the time a new artiste is assessed by his music, the contents of his songs. If his contents are conscious and cultural, then usually the perception of the artiste is of such. DJ Chuckle Berry has carved out a listenership for himself with his music that speaks to the regard to human life, the chastening of blood letting “badmen” and the appreciation for the best that life has to offer – our women. With this direction his growing fan base has followed suit. An indication, which is obvious through the increasing popularity for his songs ‘Rasta Mek Life’, ‘Say Dem A Bad Man’ and his latest produced by Sly & Robbie, ‘Welcome To The Good Life’.
*For now, as much as his music speaks for him, not much is known of Chuckle Berry despite being around a while now and attempting his second effort of “breaking” into the industry. Some make their debut with the fast lane lyrics, guns, drugs and lewdness, while others like Chuckle Berry take the moral high ground to record music that can be listened by all and played on all fora. With songs that highlight the plight of people, love and positive messages, Chuckle Berry is ready for the world as his music is already preceding him.
“Right now all is well, everything is in place to make it happen. My song ‘Good Life’ is enjoying good airplay on the radio stations and in the dancehall in Jamaica, radio stations in England and Europe. Alkebu-lan is handling my management, the ting sort out, he is setting up things with Ragnarox in the USA. I am going to do a album with them, he has all the right people in place. Sly & Robbie with Taxi label. Rory, mi a voice some tune fi dem also, all is good,” the Rasta singjay told Xtratainment.
*From all indications, ‘Good Life’, Chuckle Berry’s latest effort for Grammy award-winning rhythm twins, Sly & Robbie, should win over the women. ‘Good Life’ was recorded for the Taxi Gang label which has given the world hit after hit. Among those hits are ‘Merry Go Round’ by Junior Delgado, incidentally the vehicle that transports Chuckle Berry’s ‘Good Life’ song.
Sly & Robbie are excited about the song and the topic the singer chose to record as opposed to the other songs recorded on the Taxi Records label.
“Chuckle Berry is the Barry White of reggae in this time, the Isaacs Hayes in the music, the new voice in Jamaican music. He is poised right now to make an impact on the music scene. ‘Good Life’ will go places, it is all about love and caring for the ladies,” Sly Dunbar said.
The music video for ‘Good Life’ by Byron Brown aka Chuckle Berry was shot in his native parish of St. Ann. There Chuckle Berry attended Marcus Garvey Secondary High School and Fitz Henley’s Business School.
For those who may not have known Chuckle Berry before, some of his songs are ‘Rasta Nuh Tek Life’ and ‘Bad Man’. His first studio recording was for H.I.M.’s Production, a song titled ‘Respect Due To Every Sound’. Chuckle Berry also did an album entitled ‘Cost Of Living’ for record producers Flabba Holt and Leggo which was distributed by Ras Records, a company based in Washington D.C, U.S.A.
He signed a contract with record producer Castro Brown for three years and in 1990 toured countries like the United States, Europe, Japan and Canada where he had the hit song ‘Things A Gwaan’ which peaked at number 2 on the Reggae Chart. In England his songs ‘Yearning’ featuring Annette Brown and ‘Programme’ with Luciano were very popular.
After doing some soul searching, Chuckle Berry returned to the music scene in 2005 with ‘Equal Rights’, ‘Hungry’ featuring the singer Kharuso, Cindy Lauper cover effort ‘Time After Time’ with Latoya and ‘Don’t Give It Up’, ‘Rasta Nuh Tek Life’, ‘El Numero Uno’ featuring Tsahai, ‘Rasta Straight’, ‘Giving It To Har’, ‘Di Spice’ and ‘Bad Man’ are favourites among disc jockeys.
*His recently released Sly & Robbie-produced song ‘Good Life’ (Merry Go Round rhythm) on the Taxi label is getting maximum spin on FM radio in Jamaica, England and Europe. His videos, ‘Rasta Nuh Tek Life’ and ‘El Numero Uno’, are getting heavy rotation on both cable and television stations. He is working on a soon-to-be-released 18-track album. Chuckle Berry has performed on GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza, Reggae Sumfest, and the Ocho Rios Seafood Festival to account for his few local appearances. The consensus by all who have worked with the singer so far is good.
“Chuckle Berry is one of the most positive artistes of this time, his sense of lyrics is now the norm of what dancehall should be. He is definitely a force in the current popular dancehall and reggae. His song ‘Good Life’ depicts that,” Taxi Records engineer Rory Baker said.
Chuckle Berry’s revolutionary spirit echoes the call for a revolution in his music and this consciousness has propelled him in the hearts of the devoted reggae fans. With an in-depth understanding of Rastafari and African history, he is expected to make an indelible mark on the minds of the conscious people of the world as he delivers thought provoking lyrics.
“Reggae music is here to stay and I ‘n’ I is here to impart my knowledge of history to the people, cause for too long Babylon have my people in spiritual, mental and physical bondage and this is as a result of lack of knowledge and understanding of oneself,” he said.
